Fund-raising Policy

Throughout the year the choir will participate in many fund-raisers to earn money for trips and other items to improve our facilities. Here are some guidelines to help you understand how the money that is earned through fund-raising is managed.

  1. All money turned in to the WAHS choirs should be in the form of CHECKS or MONEY ORDERS only.  Cash will not be accepted.  Students and parents are asked to deposit cash collected for fundraising items into their personal account and write a check for that amount.

  2. All checks are to be made out to WARREN AREA HIGH SCHOOL, with the student's name written near the Memo line of all checks turned in.

  3. All money earned through fund-raising is the property of the WAHS choir, and students who leave the choir for any reason are not entitled to any portion of it.

  4. 10% of the profit that students make through choir fund-raisers is placed in the general choir fund to help cover expenses that are not trip related.

  5. The remaining 90% of the money earned is also placed in the choir fund, but is broken up into individual choir accounts by the choir treasurer and the director. This division of the choir fund is for the convenience of accounting in the event that the choir goes on a trip, and students are not entitled to any portion of that money if the trip is canceled or they are unable to participate.

  6. Money may be transferred between student accounts if both students agree to the trade. (The treasurers or director must be given written notice.)

  7. Money owed to the choir will be automatically deducted from student accounts. If no account exists for a student, he must pay the fee or his name and the amount owed will be turned in to the front office as an obligation.

  8. Special fund-raisers may be planned during the course of the year for specific needs. Choir members will be told about these before they occur, and the full amount of money earned will be applied toward that specific item.

  9. Expenditures from the choir fund are made at the discretion of the director and the officers

  10. Although fund-raising and participation on trips are encouraged, neither are required for membership in choir.

  11. Student whose accounts contains more money than is needed for the trip will be given that amount for spending money the morning of departure.  This amount will not exceed $50 unless the officers vote to increase it.  The amount of excess money must exceed $5 in order to be given to the student.
